Located in the upper back and shown here in blue, these muscles help connect the shoulder blades to the rib cage and spine. They also help you to maintain good posture.

Pain is usually felt under the neck between the shoulder blades and spine. It’s sometimes referred to as shoulder blade pain or upper back pain.


You may feel pain in this area as a strain, a shooting pain, or some type of spasm or crunching when you round your shoulders.


C A U S E S O F P A I N:


You can sprain or strain your rhomboid muscles by doing any activities that overwork your back, shoulders, and arms, including:


1️⃣ REPETITIVE Sports movements, such as throwing a ball, serving a tennis ball or volleyball🏐 , swinging a golf club, or rowing

2️⃣ Carrying a HEAVY backpack / overuse of one arm carrying heavy shopping bags and handbags

3️⃣ Slouching while you work at a desk or computer

4️⃣ Poor posture


You’re also more likely to strain or sprain the rhomboid muscles if:


1. You haven’t properly warmed up before you play sports

2. Your muscles are weak because you haven’t exercised or played in a long time

3. Your muscles are overtired
